On May 24th, the press conference of the 22nd Qinghai Lake International Road Cycling Race in 2023 was held in Beijing. At the meeting, it was announced that the current competition will open on July 8th, with official competitions held from July 9th to 16th. The closing ceremony will be held in Chaka Town, Ulan County, Haixi Prefecture on the evening of the 16th. As one of China's most internationally influential cycling events, this race is also the Paris Olympic points race. The Chinese national road cycling team will form a team to participate and win points at the Paris Olympics.
The opening ceremony of this competition will be held in Xining City on July 8, 2023. The competition will be held in the province from July 9 to 16, and the closing ceremony will be held in Chaka Town, Ulan County, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture on the evening of the 16th. The competition consists of 8 stages, with a total distance of 1344 kilometers, including 1294 kilometers for the competition and 50 kilometers for the transition. The route passes through Xining City, Haidong City, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and Haixi Mongolian Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The route includes a variety of stage types such as flat roads, mountains, and hills, with a maximum elevation of 4120 meters and an average elevation of nearly 3000 meters. This not only highlights the characteristics of the highest sea level and the most difficult in the world of the Lake Tour, but also strengthens the smooth connection between stages, further enhancing professionalism.
It is reported that more than 40 high-level teams from around the world have registered for this competition. The organizing committee has finally selected 22 teams and 154 athletes from around the world to participate, including 5 professional teams, 15 intercontinental teams, and 2 national teams. There are a total of 6 domestic teams participating, including the Chinese national team and the China Huaxing Intercontinental Team. The event features individual awards such as individual total score champion, climbing point champion, sprint point champion, and Asian best driver, as well as two group awards including group points and Asian group points. The total prize money and appearance fees for the event amount to $1 million.
